Back in May of 2001, I was looking to replace the 14x6 OEM alloy wheels that came standard on my '94 B package car. Going up to a 15" size allows one to chose a larger variety of performance tires compared to the 14" size. I wanted to get a good-looking, strong, lightweight 15" wheel, and settled on the SSR Competition wheel being sold by Tire Rack.
It came in a very attractive gunmetal blue, and was light (listed in printed Tire Rack ads as as 9.6-10.1 lbs - I guess the range is due to different offsets and lug configuraiton). I also chose to buy it with some Bridgestone 195-50/15 RE-730 tires. I received the tires mounted, and balanced by Tire Rack.
When I bought the SSR Comps, there were reports of people having problems with the wheel. Some had experienced bent rims when hitting potholes and another person had complained about leaky valve stems. I'm happy to say I've not experienced any of these problems. My car is a daily commuter, and I've hit my share of potholes and I've also accidentally run into parking curbs on two occassions and all the wheels are still nice and true, and the finish is still like when I originally received them.
