Ordered Dec-01-96. Installed on Dec-07-96

I bought these seat covers from a store called Wet Okole in Costa Mesa, CA. They're custom built to patterns unique to each vehicle (not just a Miata). The covers are made of neoprene (the wet suit material). They were $199 per pair and it was installed for me at the store. The store does its primary business via phone-in orders (lots of people were calling in to place their order while I was there), but if you walk into their store, there's samples of various seat covers for a variety of vehicles there along with complete color samples.

You could choose a seat cover that was all black, but for a little more money, you had your choice of both a custom color for the outer and inner panels. I went with Black (#12) for the outer and Cobalt Blue (#19) for the inner to match the color of my car. There was also a (free) choice of whether or not you wanted to put their logo on the headrest area - I chose not to.

A few days after I had placed my order, they called me and said that my covers were ready. I went to their store the next weekend, and it was installed while I waited. From observation, it seemed quite manageable to do it yourself. For each seat, the 2 mounting bolts closest to the door had to be removed completely, and the 2 bolts closest to the center console had to be loosened but not removed. This allowed the installer to slide the straps underneath the seat. Considerable time was spent properly pulling up the slack of the seat cover harness straps to ensure a nice fit.

The store, Wet Okole originated in Hawaii (I think the name translates to "Wet Ass".) The person at the store told me that these seat covers are very popular over there, especially in rental vehicles, off-road sport utility vehicles, vehicles used near the beach, etc.

They're water-resistant, although I haven't really tested that feature yet. Some colors, like the one I chose for the inner color are not completely UV-fade-resistant. I was told others colors held up better in the sun.

Also, I was told that Wet Okole makes the seat cover that Motorsports in Anaheim sell, and based on the photo of the seat cover that Motorsports ran in heir ad in the Summer '97 issue, it believe this is true. So I'm not quite sure why one would order it from Motorsports, unless they were selling it cheaper.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this edition. I've gotten several compliments on its look and it does match nicely with the color of my car. I'm just a *little* disappointed by the fact that its not completely sun resistant, but I don't think it'll be a problem in the long run.
