A picture of the front right shock, before getting started. These boots were the KYB brand bump stop / boots. Notice after only 2 years, they've torn. More on the illfitting KYB bump stops later.

To remove the front shocks, I used a method that I first saw documented at the San Diego Miata club web site.

I've used this method twice, once on my car when I was originally installing the KYB AGX shocks, and once on my wife's when installing her AGX shocks. I've never used any other method (the big hammer method, or the big bolt method) to remove the front shocks, and even though it might take a little longer than the other methods, I was familiar with doing it this way.
