Here's the KYB shock with bump stop / dust boot removed.
The spring perch and a little ring that the dust boot
hooks on to have to be removed. I used a big hammer, and with some
gentle pounding on the dust boot ring, and more vigorous pounding on
the spring perch ring.
The dust boot ring came off easily. The spring perch took a lot more time. On the rear right spring, the spring perch was a bit rusted on and took a lot longer to remove. Don't worry about bashing the KYB spring perch too much, because they aren't going to be reused. When removing this spring perch, I found that pounding it maybe 2 or 3 times on side, followed by pounding on the opposite side of the ring worked best. |
